The 2018 World Cup : Volgograd have been prohibit the sale of alcohol as England fans descended on the city centre in large numbers

News24xx.com -  In 2016, the European Championships in France were tarnished by fans during the group stages, particularly in Marseille where England and Russia supporters clashed in violent scenes that left numerous people with injuries.

At that time, any fans hoping to save money by buying cheap alcohol from the local shop near the stadium in the city will go away empty handed. And England and Russia supporters clashed in violent scenes.

So, in an attempt to avoid similar clashes, Russian authorities have implemented a ban that will see the sale of alcohol restricted at bars, pubs, restaurants, supermarkets and off-licences on the day before and day of any match. 

And Volgograd have been blocked off as England fans descended on the city centre in large numbers. The centre of Volgograd had a large numbers of Tunisia and England fans that mixing in the fan zone when the Sweden versus South Korea match kicked off.

Kirill Malyshkin, Moscow City Hall’s deputy head of regional security, announced the measure at a Russia-Peru cultural event in Lima.

Executive power bodies have set the borders where the sale and consumption will be banned on the eve and day of a match.

At least, 12 matches in total will be affected at the World Cup by the restriction of alcohol, but fans will still be able to purchase alcoholic drinks inside stadiums and at official FIFA fan zones. 

The decision is far more restrictive than the drug use.

The Russia 2018 World Cup organising committee announcing in February that fans can take marijuana, cocaine and even heroin into a stadium providing that they have the relevant supporting medical documents.
