News24xx.com -  German authorities detained the boss of Audi's luxury car manufacturer, Rupert Stadler, in the case of a diesel car emissions scandal that known as dieselgate.

Stadlerwas arrested on Monday, June 18 2018 in Munich, because it is feared will affect the witness case dieselgate.


Stadler, 55, is the highest-ranking VW group executive who has been arrested in the dieselgate case. He has worked at Volkswagen Group since 1990, and entered the VW board of directors in 2010.


VW spokesman, Nicolai Laude confirmed that Stadler had been arrested but he was reluctant to comment further. 

He said the VW Group's supervisory board would discuss the matter. 

"We will apply the principle of presumption of innocence to Stadler," he said as quoted by CNN, Tuesday, June 19 2018.


The dieselgate case began to spread in 2015 and occurred in 240,000 diesel cars that sold in the United States and Europe. 

VW is suspected of installing emissive emission test devices for their cars to have better emissions figures. And Volkswagen has admitted this scandal.


The authorities have investigated about 20 Audi employees including Stadler. They've been searching in the Stadler's house to look for many evidences in an investigation that has been going on for more than 1 year.


Although has been arrested, Stadler could be released from prison in next week, if he wants to cooperate with the investigators.
