News24xx.com - The Croatian Football Federation (HNS) decided to fire Ognjen Vukojevic, from the position of assistant coach of Croatia for the 2018 World Cup ahead of the semifinal match against England, Wednesday, July 11th 2018, evening local time. He was fired because of uploading his personnal political statement through his own Twitter account.

Quoted from the Sport Bible, Vukojevic wrote a highly sensitive and political statement after Vatreni defeated Russia in the 2018 World Cup quarter-finals through a penalty shootout. "A triumph for Ukraine!" Vukojevic said through his Twitter account before he deleted his statement.

The statement was considered offensive to Russians who have bad diplomatic relation with Ukraine. In the last five years, Russia has been accused of being the mastermind behind the conflict that once occurred in the country.

Not just Vukojevic, Croatian defender Domagoj Vida also uploaded a similar statement with his coach on Twitter: "This victory is for Dynamo [Kiev] and Ukraine!" The situation also made HNS must act decisively by firing Vukojevic and give a loud reprimand to Vida for their statements that were uploaded on Twitter.

"The Croatian Football Federation hereby announces that Ognjen Vukojevic has been fired of the Croatian team's coaching staff because of the decision of the management of the Croatian football federation, so he is no longer a Croatian delegate at the 2018 World Cup in Russia."

"HNS decided to revoke the accreditation of Vukojevic at the World Cup and free himself from the task of being a monitor for the Croatian national team" HNS quoted the Sport Bible as saying.
