The youngest mayor in Japan will start his duty on this July

News24xx.com - Haruka Kuwabara, a 31-year-old woman, becomes the youngest mayor in Japan. In her first day on Monday, she was welcomed with applause by the government staffs in Tsunan, Niigata Prefecture. They even gave her flowers.

“I am filled with a feeling of responsibility,” Kuwabara said as she sat in her new table.

During her first press conference, Kuwabara said, “I am determined to work in building a bright, lively and transparent city.”

The next governmental event will be held by city council on July 18th. To prepare for it, Kuwabara also said that she wanted to give a speech that will make people see the potential of change.

Kuwabara came from Tsunan and she graduated from University of Tokyo postgraduate school. She was elected as mayor on June 24th. She also won a seat in city council.
