Russian woman was arrested in the US with the charge of spionage

News24xx.com - A Russian woman was arrested on charges of conspiracy to influence the politics of the United States. This 29-year-old woman is considered the US authority as a spy for the Russian government.

The US Department of Justice said the woman named Mariia Butina was arrested in Washington on Sunday, July 15th 2018 local time and began trial on Monday, July 16th 2018.

Butina was charged with conspiring to influence US politics by having close ties with a number of US political groups including the highly influential National Rifle Association (NRA). She was also charged with conspiring.

"By developing relationships with US people and infiltrated into organizations that have influence in American politics" the US Justice Department said in a statement.

Butina's arrest was announced when US President Donald Trump flew back to Washington from Helsinki, Finland after meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin. Critics ravaged Trump after the meeting, as he was seen as failing to defend the United States in front of Putin about the US presidential election intervention.

The US Justice Department stated that Butina had violated the rules of US law by not explaining to US authorities that she was acting on behalf of the Russian government.

In the indictment document, Butina is said to have a close relationship with 'a Russian official' whose identity is not mentioned further. But media reports say the figure in question is Russian politician Alexander Torshin.
