The youth football team rescued after trapped in Thailand have been released from hospital
News24xx.com - After 18 days trapped in a flooded cave in Thailand and getting treatment in the hospital, now, the youth football team have been released from hospital.
But before left the hospital, the management of hospital made a news conference with the 12 boys and their coach in the northern city of Chiang Rai, on July 18 2018, where the boys have been recovering since last week.
Each child stood up and introduced themselves.
One boy described the moment they were found as a ‘miracle’. They said despite having no food, they drank water from stalactites, meaning they stayed hydrated enough to survive. A number of the boys said they now wish to join the Navy SEALs.
One boy said, after two days in the cave, they started to feel weak.
"We told one another to stay still to preserve energy and we were feeling weak. Those who had torches were told to turn them off so we could use them later. After 10 days we felt weak and had no energy. We gave up."
The youngest boy added that he fainted in the cave as he became so weak, so he tried to fill his stomach with water.
When the boys had the energy, they said they would dig at one of the cave walls. They managed to dig three or four metres into the wall, but found no escape. Asked at the conference if they would ever go back to the cave, most boys answered ‘no’.
As we know, the Wild Boars team-mates had entered the Tham Luang cave on June 23 2018 for a quick, relaxing excursion after practice, but rain began falling while they were underground, and the water filled the caverns, cutting off their escape.
Then, divers found the group huddling on a spot of dry ground deep inside the cave 10 days later.
An international team of rescuers using diving equipment and pulleys extracted the 12 boys and the coach through the tight, flooded passageways over three days, concluding on July 10 2018.
Some of the boys were treated for minor infections, but all 13 have been described as recovering well. Though the boys and coach are said to be in good mental and physical health, they will be provided with additional psychological monitoring to detect trauma.
They are due to return to their homes on Wednesday, July 18 2018.
