News24xx.com - Findings from studies in the United States seem to support the idea that people with high IQs prefer to spend more time thinking, rather than doing some physical activity. And for physically active people may need to stimulate their minds with external activities, either to escape from their minds or out of boredom.

Researchers from the University of Florida Gulf Coast gave a test to a group of students. With a questionnaire about 'cognition needs', researchers asked participants to assess how strongly they agreed with statements such as "I really enjoy the task that involves new solutions to problems", and "I just think hard, if I have to do it."

The researchers, led by Todd McElroy, then selected 30 'thinkers' and 30 'non-thinkers' from the candidates. Over the next seven days the two groups used devices on their wrists that tracked their movements and levels of activity, providing a constant flow of data about how actively they act physically.

The results show that groups that think far less actively than those who rarely think. But there were no differences in the results between the two groups for the weekend. The research findings, published in the Journal of Health Psychology, are described as "very significant" and "strong" in terms of statistics.

Researchers suggest that these findings can give the idea that people who don't think become easier to feel bored, so need to fill their time with physical activity.
