News24xx.com - Russian and Japanese scientists have just discovered a giant Wolf head from the Pleistocene era, which has been preserved in the ice sheet for 40,000 years. This head is found complete with thick fur and has complete teeth. This head was first discovered by a local named Pavel Efimov in 2018 when he was looking for mammoth tusks around the Tirekhtyakh River in the town of Yukatia, Siberia.

The head was then taken to the mammoth study department at the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Sakha. Scientists first exhibited it earlier this month in a mammoth exhibition in Tokyo, Japan.

"This is the first time an ancient wolf head is found where its soft tissue is well preserved after 40,000 years, its an adult wolves" said the department's head Albert Protopopov, as quoted by CNN, Wednesday, on June 12th 2019.

The wolf is around two to four years old when he dies. The size of his head is very large, the length reaches 40 cm and its brain looks intact. As a comparison, modern wolf heads are only about 23-28 cm long.

The DNA from this head will be studied by scientists from the Swedish Museum of Natural History. They will try to make digital models of the interior of the head and brain to compare the genetic makeup and morphology of these animals with modern wolves.
