Some doctors in India perform a kidney operationto a patien whose the weight of his kidney is 7.4 kilograms. It's the equivalent of the weight of two newborns, from the body of a patient.

It is believed that the organ is the largest kidney taken from the patient's body, because the weight of a kidney usually ranges from 120-150 grams.

The patient is said to have Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease, which causes a variety of cysts to grow in his kidneys.

A doctor involved in the operation, said large kidneys are commonly found in patients with the disease.

According to Dr. Sachin Kathuria from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi, doctors usually will not take organs unless there are symptoms of infection and internal bleeding, remembering that kidney function is important for screening in the body.

"This patient had a severe infection and did not respond to antibiotics and the size of the kidney caused the patient to have difficulty breathing. Thus, we had no choice but to take it," Kathuria said.

Katuria added, the doctors already knew they would find a large kidney during an operation. However, the size of a kidney this one still makes them surprised.

"Her other kidneys are even bigger," he told the BBC.

The heaviest kidney, according to the Guinness World Record, is 4.5 kilograms. However, urology journals noted that the kidneys were heavier than the Guinness record.

The weight of a kidney in the US reaches 9 kilograms, while a kidney from the Netherlands is 8.7 kilograms.

Dr Kathuria considered submitting their findings to Guinness as a world record.

Based on the British Health Services page, kidney cysts are caused by heredity. The disease will cause problems when patients aged between 30 to 60 years.

Kidney function will be disrupted until finally experiencing malfunction.
