Urban areas in Bali absorb water supplies from rural areas to meet the needs of visitors. The facts show that most of Indonesia faces a severe drought which makes things worse.

Reporting from the Indonesian Environmental Protection Agency, half of the rivers in Bali, which is 260 rivers out of 400, have dried up.

A lecturer at the University of West England, Cole, conducted research on this issue. He reported that the largest water reserve on the island, Lake Buyan, dropped 3.5 meters.

He added, "This is ridiculous that tropical islands lack water."

Another report came from a charity worker interviewed by Al-Jazeera. The worker said that on average, a tourist uses between 2,000 and 4,000 liters of water per day at the resort.

On the other hand, local residents of Bali live poorly due to drought. Without their natural resources, the amount of water they have now cannot even fulfill their daily routines such as cooking and cleaning.

Their iconic luxurious rice fields have now turned pale.

The government is trying to improve the situation by distributing supplies through water trucks, but clearly, that is not enough.

"Last month, the government took four water trucks, but this month there were none," said Ketut, a cashew farmer in Tianyar Timor.
