Climate Change; Dangerous! a Number of Islands in Indonesia Are Sinking Due to Rising Sea Surface

News24xx.com - Climate change has become a very worrying problem because it is the main cause of many problems such as unexpected weather changes and rising sea levels. And now, rising sea levels have submerged two islands in Sumatra, Indonesia, as reported by The Star.

According to data from the Indonesian Environment Forum (Walhi), the two islands, Betet and Gundul, each currently sinking at an altitude of 1 meters and 3 meters below sea level.

If sea level rise continues, then four other islands, namely Burung Island, Kalong Island, Salah Namo Island and Kramat Island, are on the verge of disappearing because they are in the range of 0 meters  to 3 meters above sea level.

At present, there are 23 small islands on the east coast of Banyuasin, South Sumatra, one of them is Salah Namo Island. The gravity, the island is still inhabited by people.

The head of the environmental unit on Salah Namo Island, Syahrul, said that they were already aware of rising sea levels. They also know that the island is at risk of being submerged. And they moved their house away from the original place where their house was first built.

Syahrul added that there are large fields in front of people's homes where they can do recreational activities there, but everything has changed now.
