"It is not known how this disease will develop in tigers because different species can react differently due to this new viral infection, but we will continue to closely monitor and anticipate a full recovery," the statement said.

Four zoos and aquariums in New York have been temporarily closed since March 16. Although humans can transmit the Coronavirus to animals, the zoo has confirmed that so far there has been no evidence of contagion transmission, from animals to humans.

According to the US Department of Agriculture, so far there have been no reports of pets or other animals in the US falling ill due to the Coronavirus before the case of the Nadia tiger in New York.
