News24xx.com -  Ever since the government resumed domestic air travel in May 25, many passengers have been tested positive for the novel virus, prompting concerns around air travel and safety of fellow passengers.

At least 23 people who flew on different doemstic flights have tested positive for Covid-19 since Monday, May 25, when air services resumed in the country after a two-month halt follwing the pandemic-induced lockdown.

All the passengers who have tested positive are now in institutional quarantine after reaching their respective destinations.

Their co-passengers are being traced, informed and screened for further action. The flight crew has been placed under quarantine by their respective airlines.

Most of the passengers who tested positive flew on IndiGo, an unsurprising development considering it is India's largest airline.

On May 25, domestic air travel resumed, exactly two months after flights across the country were grounded as part of the countrywide lockdown imposed to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus which has killed millions across the world. In India, the numbers are rising exponentially even since migrant movement was announced and domestic travel resumed, raising fears of rapid transmission of the infection.

The government is now looking to ease restrictions futher as Lockdown 4.0 comes to an end on May 31, in a bid to restart the economy.

The first case was reported on an IndiGo flight from Chennai to Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu. The second case was from an Air India's Alliance Air flight from Delhi to Ludhiana in Punjab. The passenger flew on May 25, tested positive on May 26 and the news was reported on May 27.
