News24xx.com - There is no denying that a lot of Filipinos are slowly falling in love with Korean culture. Many teens are into Kpop, while a variety of Filipino viewers love watching Korean movies and dramas. South Korea offers many beautiful places to explore, with unique dishes that will definitely tickle your heart and your tummy.

Unfortunately, many Filipinos don’t understand the country’s language, and learning it can be expensive.

With this at hand, the Philippine Department of Education decided to introduce several foreign languages to select public high schools, including Hanguk, or the Korean language.

The DepEd will introduce Korean language as a second foreign language and elective through a pilot program which will be conducted starting this year in select 10 high schools in Metro Manila,” the education department said in a statement.

Korean Ambassador to the Philippines Kim Jae Shin said learning the Korean language will provide better “opportunities for local and international employment” and education grants in Korea for select Filipino students.

“Language is very important so teaching and studying [foreign languages] in schools is very helpful to deepen the bilateral understanding between two nations,” Kim added.

Aside from Korean, other languages offered under DepEd’s Special Program in Foreign Language include Spanish, Nihongo, French, German and Mandarin.
