News24xx.com - Facebook has implemented artificial intelligence (AI) for various purposes in moderating content on its platform. This time, Facebook created a special AI to read memes. As reported by Mashable, Thursday, September 13th 2018, the AI ??named Rosetta can read and understand the text that appears on memes as well as other images and video frames on Facebook and Instagram.

Although understanding memes is considered to be of little importance, Rosetta can also be used for other purposes such as improving photo search features and identifying malicious and inappropriate content. "Understanding text that appears on images is important for increasing experience, such as more relevant photo searches or text combinations to screen readers that make Facebook more accessible to those who have visual impairments" Facebook said in a blog post.

The way Rosetta works is divided into two. First, Rosetta scans images to search for text and uses text recognition to identify what the text says. Then, after being transcribed, the system will interpret the meaning of the text. Facebook claims that Rosetta is able to process more than one billion images per day.

This technology is expected to help Facebook detect and remove malicious content that was not previously identified. Facebook said, in the future they will use similar technology to understand the text that appears on the video. However, more complex technology and systems are needed to carry out these functions.
