News24xx.com - In Indonesia, it requires a blood bag of around 5 million per year from 2 percent of the population of each region. Start to help with childbirth, treat an illness, and deal with accidents that victims experience a lot of blood deficiency.

But at this time there is often a skewed assumption regarding blood transfusions carried out by the Indonesian Red Cross or PMI. One of them is the high price of blood needed per bag.

The issue of the high price of one blood bag which now reaches IDR 360,000 per bag makes people ask, why is it so expensive to buy one bag of blood?

This is a question that many people express, about why blood donors are free to give their blood but if they want the bag they must pay.

Dr. Farid, as the Chairperson of PMI's Center for Health, Social Assistance, Blood Donors and PMI Hospital, gave an explanation like this: "All blood from PMI is free and you don't have to pay. But, there is a fee to pay, but for BPD or Fees Processing from the blood itself because it cannot be directly distributed from the donor to the recipient not to pay for the blood. " Quoted from the essence, September 17th 2018.

The process of taking blood from donors cannot be directly given to the recipient. There are stages that must be done for 6 hours before blood can be given to the recipient. Blood must go through the feasibility test phase free from diseases such as HIV, Malaria, and Hepatitis. And see the quality of blood that can be given to the recipient.

The price of blood bags that are still imported has become one of the factors why the price of a blood bag is so expensive. What must be rectified here is, every expense incurred when needing blood is to charge BPD instead of the price of the blood itself.
