News24xx.com - Myanmar expressly rejects the decision by the International Criminal Court to investigate alleged crimes against Rohingya ethnic. "Myanmar strongly rejects the decision of (ICC) which is legally doubtful" Myanmar government was quoted as saying by AFP on Friday, September 7th 2018.

Myanmar insists it is not obliged to respect the decision of ICC because Myanmar itself is not a member of it. Previously ICC stated that its institution have the authority to investigate a humanitarian crisis which targeting Rohingya ethnic in Myanmar as alleged crimes against humanity.

Through the statement, ICC confirmed that most judges decided that the court based on The Hague have the power to investigate cases of alleged forced eviction of Rohingya from Myanmar to Bangladesh."

Even so, ICC's move is deemed not to be smooth because legally Myanmar is not a member state that ratifies the Rome Statute, the treaty that forms the basis for the establishment of ICC. ICC claims and charges are not legally binding on international non-member countries.

The insistence on ICC to intervene in prosecuting human rights violations in Myanmar is getting stronger after United Nations fact finding team released preliminary reports regarding alleged human rights violations against Rohingya in late August.
