Instagram reportedly is developing online shopping feature called IG shopping

News24xx.com - Instagram is reportedly developing a separate application specifically for online shopping. This application, reportedly called IG Shopping, allows users to directly buy items from businesses that they follow on Instagram.

As reported by The Verge, Wednesday, September 5th 2018, it is not yet known when this application will be launched. The development can also be canceled. But sources familiar with this development say, Instagram has a good position to expand into e-commerce business.

Instagram itself has a shopping feature released in March 2017. This feature allows businesses to tag posts with a product and users can buy items directly from the photo.

Today, every business needs an Instagram account to expand their reach. Based on data disclosed by Facebook Chief Operating Official, Sheryl Sandberg, there are 25 million businesses that have accounts on Instagram and 2 million of them are advertisers.

In addition, four out of five Instagram users follow at least one business account. So, Instagram's strategy to make special applications makes sense if they want to take advantage of this trend as well as to increase revenue.
