News24xx.com - The wife of Syrian President Bashar Assad was hospitalized in one of Damascus hospitals with an oncological disease. This was reported by the press-office of the head of state in Facebook, RBK reports.

The report says that Asma al-Assad was diagnosed with a malignant breast tumor. Fortunately, doctors diagnosed cancer at an early stage.

In the office of the president they expressed hope that the treatment of the first lady of Syria will be successful and she will soon recover.

Bashar Assad, became president of Syria in the summer of 2000, took Asmu al-Ahras to his wife on January 1, 2001. Asad and al-Ahras knew each other before the wedding for a long time, as their families were closely friends. Asma al-Ahras was born in Homs in an influential Sunni family headed by the famous Syrian cardiologist Favvaz Ahras.

Asma al-Assad has dual citizenship - Syrian and British. Prior to her marriage with Assad, she graduated the University of London, and then worked in finance in the United States and Britain.

Asma gave birth to three children - two sons in 2001 and 2004, and also a daughter in 2003.
