News24xx.com - The President of the Philippines, Rodrigo Duterte, was detected with Buerger disease since the end of 2016. Sensitive issues surrounding the disease continued to shake him. Duterte himself admitted that he was experiencing the disease in early 2017.

Quoted from the Mayo Clinic, until now there is no known cause of Buerger Disease. However, most patients are consumers of tobacco. Disease with another name thromboangitisobliterans is a rare disease.

Buerger disease is characterized by clots that block blood flow in the vessels of the hands and feet. This blockage reduces blood flow and cause pain, swelling, damaged the skin tissue. The initial symptoms of the disease are pain in the hands and feet that are lost and gone while on the move.

These symptoms are followed by changes in the color of the fingers and toes, sores that are painful, and swelling due to blockages in the blood vessels. Doctors usually detect this disease with a blood test, Allen's test, an angiogram, and electrocardiography (EKG). Doctors reach conclusions regarding Buerger Disease, after removing other possible diseases.

Until now there is no therapy that specifically addresses Buerger Disease. Drugs and surgery are applied to overcome the effects of Buerger, for example removing dead tissue and reducing blockages. Patients must stop smoking to put the brakes on the rate of disease and their blood circulation.
