News24xx.com - The Malaysian government has decided to abolish the death penalty. The Draft Law regarding the abolition will be immediately submitted to parliament for discussion. The Minister responsible for legal affairs in the Prime Minister's Department, Liew Vui Keong, said the matter had been discussed at a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday morning, October 10th 2018.

"All death sentences will be abolished. Period." Liew said in an event at the University of Malaya as reported by Malay Mail and reported by Channel News Asia on Thursday, October 11th 2018. "All used documents are in the final stages. The Attorney General has also indicated to us that it is ready to be submitted, hopefully in this (parliament) session."

The Malaysian minister also called for a moratorium on all punishments until the death penalty is completely abolished. "Because we are removing the sentence, all punishments cannot be carried out" he said. "We will inform the Forgiveness Board to see various applications for prisoners on the waiting list (death penalty) whether to be alleviated or released.”
