News24xx.com - Facebook has just deleted hundreds of accounts and pages that are considered to violate company policy regarding "inauthentic" content and spam. Many have nuances of political misinformation. In his blog post, Facebook wrote that they had deleted 559 pages and 251 accounts. These accounts and pages were deleted because they violated Facebook's rules and abusing their platform.

Facebook records accounts and these pages use strategies such as posting via fake or multi-account accounts to get traffic, or to increase their popularity.

"Because we are getting better at dealing with abuse like this, the people behind it - economically or politically motivated - will change their strategy to avoid detection" Facebook said in its blog post, The Verge, Friday, October 12th 2018.

"That's why we continue to invest heavily, including in better technology, to prevent abuse like this. Because people will only share on Facebook if they feel safe and believe in the relationships they can establish here" the statement continued.

Facebook also noted that the approaching inter-election in the US is one reason. Many of the pages they have just deleted often spread political content that cannot be distinguished from legitimate political debates.

The accounts and pages deleted by Facebook themselves have political views from the right wing and left wing. Some of the pages removed include the conservative Right Wing News outlet which has 3.1 million followers and the left-wing outlet Reverb Press which has 816,000 followers.
