News24xx.com -  Legendary singer Elvis Presley is one of seven people who received the Medal of Freedom award from US President Donald Trump.

The Medal of Freedom is the highest award that the US president can give to his citizens.

The White House calls Elvis as the eternal icon of America.

The award was given at a ceremony at the White House on Friday (11/16). In addition to Elvis, several other legendary celebrity names who received similar awards are baseball legend Babe Ruth, deceased Attorney General Antonin Scalia, as well as NFL stars Roger Staubach and Alan Page.

"America is blessed with citizens who are very talented, have high spirits and abilities," Trump said in his speech.

"We are a great nation and we are currently in a very prime condition."

In addition, Orrin Hatch, Utah senator who will retire and doctor, philanthropist, and Miriam Adelson humanitarian are also included in the list of award recipients.

Trump called Senator Hatch a "good friend", and made a joke: "He likes me from the start and that's why I like him."

But on the other hand, nominations given to Mrs. Adelson, wife of casino tycoon and Republican donor, Sheldon Adelson, have drawn criticism.

Public Citizen, an American public interest group told the Guardian, "it is very difficult to believe the decision to make Miriam Adelson as the nominee for the Medal of Freedom is only based on her achievements."

Meanwhile, Miriam Adelson said she "felt very touched and touched by the award".
Meanwhile, the White House claims they have followed the procedure in determining nominees, as did the previous government.
