For the first time in history, Virgin Galactic managed to bring passenger to the space

News24xx.com - Virgin Galactic's SpaceShipTwo spacecraft finally made it into space for the first time, Suborbital short flight test on Thursday, December 13th 2018 from California, USA. This aircraft has a mission to bring tourists who want to travel for 90 minutes in space.

In this trial flight, SpaceShipTwo brought two pilots and a mannequin named Annie as a passenger. This trial is the first step in CEO Richard Branson's mission to send tourists into space.

However, in contrast to other launches that ride rockets, the Virgin Galactic spacecraft takes off boarding a plane from the US Air Force airbase in Mojave, California. Virgin Galactic uses the definition of space based on US Air Force standards.

The general definition of space is 100 kilometers, while the standard of the US Air Force considers the space limit to be lower at 80.5 km. AFP reported, SpaceShipTwo managed to reach a height of 13,100 meters then fired a rocket motor for 60 seconds and managed to reach the peak height which is 82.7 kilometers from the surface of the Earth.

"Today, for the first time in history a spacecraft was built to carry passengers to the space" Branson wrote in an official statement. He claimed to be proud of the achievements made by his team this time. "This is an important day because we have jointly opened a new chapter of space exploration."
