7 people died in coal mine accident in Southwestern China

News24xx.com - Seven miners died and three others were injured in a work accident at a coal mine in southwestern China. The accident occurred at around 6 pm local time, Saturday, December 15th 2018. Local media reports, as reported by AFP, said the accident started from a connecting bridge that broke and hit the shaft of the mine.

Three injured miners were rushed to the hospital after the accident in Chongqing City. Mining accidents that killed people often occur in China. The coal mining industry in China is even known to have a poor safety record.

On October 21, miners in East Shandong Province died after pressure inside the mine resulted in cracked and broken rocks. As a result, blocking the tunnel and trapping the miners inside it. Only one miner survived the event.

In December 2016, explosions at two separate coal mines in the Inner Mongolia region and in Northeast Heilongjiang province eliminated at least 59 lives. According to the China National Coal Mine Safety Administration, the deaths of 375 miners took place in the bamboo curtain country in 2017. However, the numbers dropped an average of 28.7 percent year on year. "The coal production safety situation is still poor" the bureau said in a statement after a coal mine safety conference.
