US government will be closed temporarily after border wall budget proposal rejection

Donald TrumpDonald Trump - Temporary closure happened following the failure of Congress to pass a budget proposal for the US-Mexico border wall. This happened because the US Congress never agreed on a budget of USD 5,7 billion until the deadline in Friday, December 21st 2018 night time in the United States. "There is no agreement" Congressman Mark Meadows said after a meeting on Capitol Hill, Washington DC, as quoted by AFP on Saturday, December 22nd 2018.

The talks still stalled because the Democrats insisted to reject Trump's idea. Congress only approved a budget of USD 1.6 billion. But Trump supporters in Congress balked at that figure. The stagnation of the budget disbursement will lead to no disbursement of operational funds for a number of government institutions in the fields of law enforcement, airport security, space exploration and livestock.

That way, the Trump Government will be closed until an indefinite deadline. Hundreds of thousands of federal employees will be 'forced' to work without payment ahead of the Christmas holidays. Senator John Cornyn said currently Congress leaders from Republicans and Democrats were negotiating behind the scenes.

Congress leaders are reportedly lobbying Vice President Mike Pence, Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and chief of staff Mick Mulvaney. "One focus of the discussion was the USD 1.6 billion border security fund which is part of the pending Senate law" Cornyn told AFP.
