United States withdrew from UNESCO

United States withdrew from UNESCOUnited States withdrew from UNESCO - The decision of the United States to withdraw from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) entered into force. This is reported by the agency "Tass".

Now the United States will not pay dues and be elected to the World Heritage Committee, but the country retains observer status and will be able to nominate new properties for consideration.

About the decision of the United States became known in October 2017. It is due to the fact that the US authorities consider the organization anti-Israeli. In particular, the United States is unhappy that Palestine is included in UNESCO.

UNESCO was created in 1945 by 37 countries. The United States already left the organization in 1984 due to management differences. In 2003, the States returned to the organization, but in 2011, they stopped financing it after the decision was made to include Palestine.
