BI Riau distributes the waqf funds to the provincial government for the prosperity of society

News24xx.com - In a seminar meeting with the theme of Surgical Regional Budget (APBD) of Riau Province Tahun Anggaram 2019 which was held at the Bank Indonesia Representative Office in Riau on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 yesterday, Bank Indonesia (BI) proposed to the provincial government Riau to implement the waqf system in regional development.

"In Riau Province, the waqf system is very feasible, and I am sure in Riau it can. The funds in Riau are many, the community is also a Muslim majority" said the Head of the Riau Provincial Bank (BI) Office, Siti Astiyah.

The event was also attended by a number of officials in Riau Province, and one of them was Riau Provincial Secretary Ahmad Hijazi as well as economic practitioners and academics, as well as the Governor of Riau and elected Deputy Governor of Riau, Syamsuar and Edy Nasution.

The concept of waqf, said Siti, is based on religious provisions for the purpose of benefit and taqarrub to Allah SWT. "The majority of Riau's people are Muslims, and of course it is not difficult to donate property as a form to get reward besides from giving charity" said Siti.

An example mentioned by Siti is that the waqf collected is for example in the form of land or gardens which will later be managed for the poor whose results can be enjoyed.

On that occasion, Siti representing BI Riau Representatives distributed IDR 20 million in endowments to the Governor of Riau elected Riau Syamsuar and Regional Secretary (Sekda) Ahmad Hijazi.

"This waqf is a moral movement to be used by the Riau Provincial Government. And this waqf is from a collection of kiya salaries at BI, there are as many as 50 people, the joint venture starts from IDR 100 thousand to IDR 1 million" Siti said.

Secretary and Governor of Riau Elected welcomed the distribution of waqf and will submit to the waqf body as an instrument of regional development.

On the other hand, Syamsuar also revealed that the waqf policy had actually been implemented during his tenure as the Siak Regent at that time. As an example he mentioned was in the rice distribution program for the poor.
