Study found marijuana smoker has higher sperm concentrations than who don’t

"These unexpected findings highlight how little we know about the effects of marijuana on our reproductive health" said Jorge Chavarro of Harvard Chan School who conducted the research, quoted from Science Daily, Thursday, February 7th 2019.

Chavarro and his team published this finding on February 5, 2019 in the journal Human Reproduction. Initially, the researchers suspected that marijuana would have an adverse effect on sperm quality. However, various studies that have been conducted generally used a sample of men who are in the effect of narcotics.

In this research, scientists examined 1,143 sperm samples from 662 men from 2000 to 2017, an average of 36 years old. As many as 55 percent of participants have smoke marijuana, 44 percent have stopped and 11 percent still smoke it. But scientists note that there are a number of limitations in this study. They also cannot ascertain whether the results are relevant if applied to the general population.
