A couple made their housemate wash with a garden hose and force him go to nearby woods to go to the toilet. At that Ion Boboc, 26 years old, and Christiana Tudor-Dobre, 24 years old, deprived Gabriel Nicolae of food, leading him to resort to stealing from shops.

And that became more tragic, they also made him sleep under the stairs and eat outside in the rain. And it make him too filthy, and not let him drink from the tap inside or use the cooker on his own.

Gabriel worked in an abattoir but Boboc and Tudor-Dobre controlled his account bank, making him pay hundreds of pounds in rent for a bed in a tiny cupboard under the stairs. 

Mr Nicolae was also given just £1 a day, to buy biscuits as well as money for cannabis at the weekends.

Important documents such as his ID card, bank card, financial papers, and multiple phone contracts used by Boboc and Tudor-Dobre.

Now, after the neighbours of Mr Boboc alerted police after seeing Gabriel washing in the garden in Bristol in July 2018,  Ion Boboc and Christiana Tudor-Dobreare facing jail sentences.  

The couple have now been convicted of slavery offences after appearing in court. 

At one point Boboc stabbed Gabriel in the hand and pictures show him washing his housemates’ clothes in the garden in a basin made from a pile of rocks. 

The jury also heard that the victim was filmed carrying out tasks set by the defendants. Prosecutor Charles Thomas said police visited the house on July 27, 2018, after the neighbour called the Modern Slavery Hotline. 

Mr Thomas said, "Police were surprised when Gabriel Nicolae emerged from the cupboard under the stairs. He looked dishevelled. When we found this man he appeared underfed and was suffering from sores on his feet. No one should be treated in this way."

Now, the duo will be sentenced for their crimes on March 19.
