News24xx.com - Medical Manager of Consumer Health Division PT Kalbe Farma, dr. Helmin Agustina Silalahi, said stomach ulcer could recur in the middle of the night. It can happen if the sufferer ate exactly before going to bed, making it easier for food to back from the stomach to the oral cavity during sleep.

"For people who do not suffer stomach ulcer, it does not matter to eat before going to bed, but in patients with Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) it is prohibited. In patients with GERD, sleeping position will facilitate the return of food from the stomach which is still filled with food to the oral cavity, if you want to sleep right before eating, you should wait atleast 2 to 3 hours" said Dr. Helmin, on Saturday, February 16th 2019.

In addition, Dr. Helmin also mentioned other factors that could trigger recurrence of stomach ulcers, one of which was of course due to skipping meals. Other causes are the consumption of foods that are difficult to digest and like to drink coffee.

"Eating too much fast foods or western foods which all are difficult to digest, excessive coffee consumption, soda consumption and alcohol consumption, stress, and others" continued Dr. Helmin.

But if the ulcer has relapsed, Dr. Helmin recommended to consulting to doctor immediately, because if left unchecked, ulcer will get worse and can disrupt your daily activities. In fact, pain due to stomach ulcer can be fatal if not checked.
