Most likely, you do not even suspect what it fall to our mouth. And if fruits and vegetables are unlikely to give any unpleasant surprises, then with processed foods, such as sandwiches from supermarkets, cakes and ready meals, things are much worse. Their structure includes elements that can’t completely positively affect human health, and this despite the fact that we even have no idea what unexpected things are included in their composition.

You know that in your favorite donut there is some harmful chemistry, but what kind of substances are these? - Let’s know:

1. Excretion from beaver anal glands

The flavor additive, known as the beaver stream (or castoreum), is often found in chewing gum, sweets, alcohol, ice cream, meat products, cakes and raspberry flavorings. It may seem ridiculous, but this tasty food is obtained from the anal glands of beavers, or rather their females, who mark the territory to attract males. In the composition, it is indicated as “natural flavoring”.

2. Hair

We all heard stories about people who found hair in restaurant dishes, but this is something else. Cysteine is an aliphatic sulfur-containing amino acid, which is found not only in human hair, but also in the bristles of pigs and duck feathers. Cysteine is widely used as a taste enhancer in bagels, cakes, and even pizza. This material is quite common, so it is almost impossible to abandon its use. Therefore, next time you will already know what you are eating when you buy yourself another donut.

3. Wood

Dietary fiber such as cellulose is used by food manufacturers to reduce the fat content of things like bread and wrap. Do you know where it comes from? - From wood, or, to be as accurate as possible, from wood pulp.
