16 states in US sue Donald Trump over the emergency status he declared

News24xx.com - Total of 16 states in US sued President Donald Trump, regarding his decision to declare the status of national emergency because Congress still reluctant to approve the budget for the construction of the US-Mexico border wall. They considered Trump's steps to violate the constitution.

Dozens of states that sued Trump are California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, and Virginia. The lawsuit was filed in a California federal court on Monday, February 18th 2019. California Attorney General, Xavier Bacerra, said that dozens of states have the right to fight Trump's decision because it has the risks to harm their states.

According to Bacerra, the budget for the construction of border walls can be used for other purposes such as military projects and emergency relief funds during disasters. "The use of additional federal funds for the construction of border walls is contrary to the intentions of Congress and violates the US constitution, including the Presentation Clause and Designation Clause" the lawsuit said.

"After the government reopened after the government shutdown, Congress and the president agreed and signed a law which allocated USD 1.3 billion for the border in the south of the US, but Congress made it clear that the funds could not be used to build a border wall proposed by President Trump" the contents of the claim document.
