US hopes peace negotiations can be continued as Palestine’s new prime minister elected

News24xx.com - The United States government congratulated the new Palestinian government. The congratulation was delivered a day after Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh announced his cabinet with President Mahmoud Abbas. "Congratulations to the new Palestinian authority cabinet" said US President Donald Trump's special envoy for Palestinian-Israeli affairs, Jason Greenblatt, via Twitter on Monday, April 15th 2019.

In his tweet, Greenblatt hopes that the US can further strengthen cooperation towards peace with Palestine. "With the experience of those in the new cabinet, we hope to work together towards peace and improve the welfare of Palestine. This is a new chapter" said Greenblatt.

In addition to the US, the United Nations (UN) also welcomed the formation of the new cabinet. "The United Nations remains fully committed to working with Palestinian leaders in ending the occupation and advancing their legitimate national aspirations on a state basis in accordance with the UN resolution" said the UN envoy for the Middle East, Nickolay Mladenov.

Shtayyeh was officially sworn in as Palestinian Prime Minister on Sunday, April 14th 2019 last week replacing his predecessor Rami Hamdallah who had enough support from Hamas, one of the major factions that became a rival party to the government party, Fatah.
