News24xx.com - An eleven-year-old girl named Denise Saldate was allergic to any dairy products. Thus, her family was always careful not to buy any products that contain milk protein. Unfortunately, they did not suspect one product which ultimately killed her: a toothpaste.

Denise died after using a medicated toothpaste to help strengthen her tooth enamel. Because her family never worried about dairy ingredients in their toothpaste, they did not suspect anything. Thus, they were shocked when she suffered anaphylaxis while brushing her teeth on April 4th.

“She said, ‘I think I’m having an allergic reaction to the toothpaste’, and her lips were already blue,” said Monique Altamirano, Denise’s mother.

Altamirano said that the toothpaste was all over Denise’s teeth and gums and it cut off her oxygen. She died two days later. It turned out that her toothpaste contains Recaldent, which is derived from protein found in cow’s milk.

“I did not think to look at the product ingredients. Contrary to what everyone’s telling me, I feel like I failed her!” Altamirano said.
