Promotion of the movie 'the Curse of La Llorona' reaped criticism from traditional Mexican shaman

News24xx.com - Promotion of the film The Curse of La Llorona by using the traditional Mexican 'soul cleansing' ritual before watching the film reaps criticism and controversy. The criticism came from traditional Mexican shamans and scholars. They call the film marketing trick that is still in The Conjuring Universe harassing the Mexican local culture.

The activity took place at the premiere of 'La Llorona' in Mexico, on Thursday, April 18th 2019 evening local time. The organizers invited physicians known as curanderos to do a 'soul cleansing' called limpias to the audience before watching the film.

'The Curse of La Llorona' itself is lifted from Mexican folklore about evil creatures who often kidnap children as their victims. To keep away from La Llorona and all the forces, the traditional Mexican community used to do the limpias which were also shown in this film.

Limpia's action ahead of the screening is not the first time happens, organizers had also brought Los Angeles-based Cuban-born physician Salvador Gata to bless when the film was to be released in SXSW on March 15.
