News24xx.com - Bali is again hosting the World Surf League (WSL). In this event, there is one surfer that took the attention of Indonesian people, her name is Kailani Johnson, the first Indonesian woman who participated in this kind of event. "This is a dream come true. I remember 11 years ago, dreaming of representing Indonesia by competing in world surfing championship events. I also saw this opportunity to inspire Indonesian women" Kailani told reporters in Bali, on Monday, May 13th 2019.

For Kailani, this is her first debut in elite level as well as being the first Indonesian woman to compete in the Championship Tour event. Before going to WSL, Kailani had competed in the Krui Pro event. In the event she was ranked ninth and was awarded a wildcard as the highest ranked Indonesian surfer competing in 2019 Qualifying Series (QS).

"I have competed in several QS events in the past, but I feel that competing in this event will be a completely new experience. Whether it's in the athletic area, wearing a jersey, or surfing the waves in the heat" she explained.

Kailani herself is known as her 'goofy foot' or the usual surfing backhand or body facing away from the face of the waves towards the beach. The technique is predicted to be used to face the seven-time World Champion Australian surfers Stephanie Gilmore and Nikki Van Dijk in the first round.
