News24xx.com - King of traditional Mexican music, Vicente Fernandez (79), in an interview revealed that he once had refused the chance to get a liver transplant. The man who was diagnosed with liver cancer seven years ago said the reason was fear of the donor is a gay man.

It was not explained in an interview where Vicente first sought medical help. But at one point in his life Vicente successfully underwent a procedure for removal of liver cancer in Chile. "They (doctors-ed) want to give me a heart from another man. I told them 'I don't want to sleep next to my wife with a stranger man's heart, and I don't know if he is a homosexual or a drug addict” he said on Sunday, May 19th 2019.

Northwestern Memorial Hospital Medical Director Dr. Steven L. Flamm described liver transplant surgery as the last choice for a cancer patient. Without a transplant, a patient is said to be 75 percent more likely to die within two years.

It's just that Dr. Steven regretted Vicente's statement which was considered to cause misunderstanding regarding organ donations and transplants. According to Dr. Steven, a person's sexual orientation does not affect the quality of the transplant because all donors have gone through a rigorous evaluation process.
