News24xx.com - The research was conducted at the National Institutes of Health's (NIH) Clinical Center in Bethesda, Maryland for 20 healthy respondents. Each respondent may choose a diet with instant food or cooked as usual. Furthermore, respondents followed the diet for one month with food prepared by the research team.

"This study is indeed small but very controlled. Here we can see, instant food tends to cause participants to eat more than food which cooks manually. We need to know aspects of instant food that change diet to excess calories and weight gain" said senior researcher Kevin Hall of the NIH's National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases quoted from Live Science.

Respondents who ate instant food consumed about 500 more calories than when eating dish that they cook by themselves. Respondents also gained around 0.9 kilograms of weight, while those who ate ordinary dishes had the same amount of weight loss.

Hall said the amount of food consumed by respondents in this research is not limited. Respondents who ate instant food did tend to eat more. Researchers also found respondents who eat instant food diet tend to eat faster.

According to Hall this research reiterates the importance of limiting the consumption of instant food to reduce the risk of increasing body weight. Restrictions on consumption are also to reduce the risk of developing diabetes, heart disease and high blood pressure.
