Group of archaeologists in Israel found the remains of the oldest mosque in the country

News24xx.com - A group of archaeologists in Israel has claimed to find the ruins of one of the oldest mosques which was built when Islam arrived in the country. The Israeli Antiquities Authority itself predicts that the mosque was built in the seventh to eighth century in the city of Rahat, Israel.

Quoted from Reuters, on Thursday, July 18, 2019, the Israeli Antiquities Authority itself stated that there are still many mosques from that era which still standing in Jerusalem and Mecca. But for the mosque found in the city of Rahat it is estimated that a small mosque which was only used by local residents.

After the site had been excavated, the remains of the mosque were found without a roof covering it. The mosque is in rectangular shape with the size of a garage with a capacity of one car, and the mosque is facing to the Mecca.

"This is one of the earliest known mosques from the beginning of the arrival of Islam in Israel, after the 636 C.E Arab conquest," said Gideon Avni of the Antique Heritage Authority.

"The discovery of this village, as well as the mosques in it, has become a significant contribution to researching the history of this country in the midst of upheaval in the country," he added
