News24xx.com -  A man’s penis is turning into bone due to a rare condition that surprised doctors as they X-rayed his hips. 

The unnamed 63-year-old man brought himself to the Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center in the Bronx in New York City after a fall on the sidewalk. Before, he did not suffer any major injuries. But the patient he became worried after his knee began hurting, according to the medical journal Urology Case Reports. 

While at the hospital, doctors X-rayed the man’s pelvis and discovered bone cells were forming in the man’s penis. Doctors told the man what they found, but he apparently did not like what he was hearing, so he left the hospital and ignored the doctors’ advice.

According to the case report, the man complained of ‘some pain’ in his penis, but doctors found no symptoms of a sexually transmitted infection. The X-ray showed ‘an extensive, plaque-like calcification along the expected distribution of the penis.’

Doctors diagnosed him with an ossification, which is an abnormal bone formation that occurs when normal soft tissues become calcified and hardened. 

According to the report, "Penile ossification remains a relatively rare condition being mentioned in very few journals, with less then than 40 published case reports."
