News24xx.com - Mount Merapi has again spewed hot clouds as far as 950 meters in the early hours of Wednesday, August 14, at 04:52 a.m. Throughout 00:00 a.m. until 06:00 a.m., three eruptions of lava avalanches flowed with a distance ranging from 300 to 1,000 meters.

In the next six hours until noon, there were also three eruptions with a distance up to 600 meters.

The hot clouds, which is locally known as wedhus gembel, traveled to Kali Gendol, Cangkringan, Sleman, Yogyakarta. The hot clouds and lava avalanches slid in a safe radius below 3 kilometers.

“There is no significant rise of the mountain activity, the alert status remains on ‘Caution’ or Waspada,” said Hanik Humaida, the head of Yogyakarta Research and Technological Development for Geological Disaster Agency (BPPTKG), Wednesday, August 14.

The BPPTKG also recorded the hot clouds’ amplitude at a maximum of 50 mm, lasting around 95.80 seconds.

Therefore, the agency recommended all to avoid conducting activities in the radius of 3 kilometers from the mountain peak, apart for research and disaster mitigation purposes.

“Public can run their normal activity outside the radius 3 KM from the summit and stay vigilant over the lava especially when there is rainfall around the peak,” said Triyono, the officer of Mount Merapi Monitoring Post.
