News24xx.com - At least six inmates were killed in prison riots between rival cartels in Mexico on Wednesday, including one of the former gang leaders who were accused of being the perpetrators of the 2014 disappearance of teachers and 42 students.

Members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel and Los Rojos clashed for two days in a row after one prisoner was killed and two others wounded in a prison in Xochitepec, a city in the state of Morelos.

Riots broke out on Wednesday at the Atlacholoaya Social Reintegration Center. The victim was taken by helicopter to the nearest hospital.

Horrific images appear on social media. In the picture you can see several bloody prisoners lying on the hallway floor. Another gruesome photo shows a severed head lying on the ground next to a pair of bodies.

Another picture shows half a dozen corrected officers forced to kneel when they are surrounded by prisoners holding sticks.

At least six prisoners died as a result of violent clashes between two rival cartels at the prison.

Morelos state police and soldiers from the Mexican military and National Military Police were sent to regain control of the prison.

Interior Secretary Pablo Ojeda Cardenas told reporters that there were no weapons used by prisoners in the attack.
