"Get away from the things that conduct electricity at home," said John Jensenius, lightning safety specialist for the National Weather Service, in a report posted by AccuWeather.

He suggested that whenever he heard thunder, immediately stay away from the waterways in your house.

Jensenius also opposed the claim that the plastic material in the plumbing made it safe to use during storms.

"Water can also conduct electricity," he denied.
