News24xx.com -  Global university ranking institution Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) through QS Asia University Rangking has just released Asia rankings on Tuesday, October 17, 2017.

In its official release, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) rose the rank in Asia. The Yogyakarta-based university has jumped to the 85th spot from 105th last year. That means, UGM rose 20 ratings.

“We had set a target to be among the top 100 [in Asia] this year, and the target has been achieved,” the head of UGM’s quality control office, Indra Wijaya Kusuma, said in a release on Tuesday.

The QS based its research on 11 indicators, including academic reputation, alumni reputation, lecturer-student ratio, research citations, student exchanges and the number of foreign students.

Indra said among indicators that had significantly boosted UGM's ranking were academic reputation, which improved to 46th spot from 49th last year, and alumni reputation, which moved up to 60th place from 75th.

“Ranking improvement is not [UGM's] ultimate purpose but this achievement has further spurred UGM to continue improving its education quality in the years to come,” Indra said.

The University of Indonesia (UI) rose from 67th position in 2017 to 54th in 2018, its highest position in the annual ranking, while the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) jumped from 86th place in 2017 to 65th in 2018.

In 2017, QS Asia University conducted a performance assessment and rating of 400 universities in Asian countries through 11 indicators. Apart from UGM, 16 other Indonesian universities have also been included in Asia’s 400 top universities.
