News24xx.com -  According to the Thomson Reuters Foundation survey, Jakarta get ranked ninth in the list of the most dangerous cities or megacities in the world for women.

The result announced on Tuesday, October 17 2017. Megacity is a big city with a population of more than 10 million people.

The most dangerous city is the capital of Cairo, Egypt, followed by second place Karachi in Pakistan and Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, is ranked third.

The ranking is based on sexual violence, access to health services, cultural practices, and economic opportunities for women.

For each category, the survey determined the best points were 19. Jakarta received only seven points in sexual violence, whose best condition was defined as 'women can live in the city without risking sexual violence, including rape, sexual assault, or harassment'.

In the health services, Jakarta got a pretty good score of 11, and better for the economic opportunity with 13 points.


"Women are well-protected from harmful cultural practices including female genital mutilation, early marriage or child marriage and forced marriage, and the murder of girls."


From 19 cities that surveyed, London - which is also the headquarters of the Thomson Reuters Foundation - is the friendliest city for women.

The second rank is Tokyo and followed by Paris.
