News24xx.com -  This week, the last bell will ring at a small school at north of Albury - the state of New South Wales (NSW), Australia, which has been the heart of rural communities for nearly 150 years.

Only two students that left in Mullengandra State School and one of them will going to high school in next year, it made the NSW State Government closes the school.

The last day of operation this school will be an emotional thing for school principal Julie Twitt, who has spent 26 years teaching children in the neighborhood of farms around for generations.

"Our last day will be a hard day to lock that door for the last time. There are lots of good memories here," Twitt said.

She said it was an emotional experience to try to keep schools open in recent years, after the Hume Freeway highway was built a few meters from the school and the last pub and church in Mullengandra were closed.

"The children of traditional farm owners do not go back to farming and family farming as it used to be," she said "But, I still teach them very well."

It was one summer day when members of the local community gathered to hear Education Minister Rob Stokes explain why he closed the school.

"It's a bad thing for a Minister of Education to be in his position, where you have a school with a beautiful history, but the data shows that we not have students to enrolling in this school," he said.

"When this school opened in 1871, a half-day trip to Albury is a good experience, but today, there is a school down the road that can be accessed in less than 20 minutes," Stokes said.

"Everything is much closer and it gives more choices, but with more options, there is this kind of difficult decision."
