News24xx.com -  Sudanese authorities lifted an allegation of criminal indecency against 24 women who has arrested for wearing trousers at a party near the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, Thursday December 14 2017.

The police raided the show on Wednesday last week. Initially they were charged with 40 lashes and fines for wearing indecent clothing.

A human rights activist, Amira Osman, condemned the arrest. "The party took place in a closed hall in a building in El Mamourain southern Khartoum," she said.

"The girls were arrested only for wearing trousers, even though the show has received permission from the authorities."

Generally women in Sudan wear loose robes.

Human rights activists say every year tens of thousands of women are arrested and flogged every year. And this law is often applied arbitrarily.

It said the law in Sudan's predominantly Muslim country prohibits women wearing shorts and short or tight skirts, which activists say its as characterize a Christian.

In article Number 152 of the Sudanese Criminal Code includes public prohibitions of 'misconduct', wearing 'obscenity' or 'causing disturbance to the feelings of the general public'.

Amira Osman told Radio Dabanga who operated in the Netherlands that the public order article was suppressing women's rights.
