News24xx.com -  The European Union plans to stop to used of derivative products from palm on Monday, January 15, 2018. This plan is believed to be detrimental to the Indonesian economy, which is known as one of the largest palm exporters.


As reported by CNNIndonesia, the European Parliament's Environment Committee (ENVI) will abolish the use of biodiesel from palm oil including from Indonesia, in 2021 and vegetable oils by 2030.


The move is realized by a draft of an Energy Proposal entitled "Report on the Proposal for a Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council on the Promotion of the use of Energy from Renewable Sources" at the office of the European Parliament, Strasbourg, Wednesday 17 January 2018.


Indonesia considered the European Parliament to be contrary of the principle of fair and free trade. Even the EU move leads to discrimination of "crop apartheid" to palm products.


As expressed by the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Brussels through its release.

"Indonesia has advocated the importance of oil palm as one of the key elements of Indonesia's national interest, especially as it concerns the welfare of 17 million Indonesians, including smallholders, who depend directly or indirectly from the palm oil industry."


In the ASEAN-EU Summit in Manila, November 2017, President Joko Widodo insists that discriminatory practices and black campaigns against Indonesian palm oil are halted, especially in Europe.


Minister of Foreign Affairs, Retno LP Marsudi also emphasized the close relationship between palm oil and poverty alleviation efforts in Indonesia, in accordance with aspirations in the commitment of SDGs 2030.


Retno said Indonesia will not remain silent in the face of negative campaigns and discrimination in Europe and the United States against oil palm.

"Indonesia will continue to intensify its campaign against black campaign and continue to promote sustainable palm oil and SDG achievement," said Retno through an annual speech at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday, January 9, 2018.
