News24xx.com - There was a lot of sympathy when the story of a homeless person that living in a phone box for four months was revealed. Stephen Pope's story has touched the hearts of British citizens.


Stephen, 42, who does not want to beg and does not claim his insurance, gets the attention from the locals. They started o tgiving him food and sandwiches and now the Birmingham City Council has visited Stephen Pope and provided him with food and shelter.


They said that he had agreed to be referred to Birmingham's Homeless Outreach team.


Every night Stephen turns the inside of a phone box into a makeshift bedroom, using some blankets and sleeping bags to keep warm.

Liberal Democrat councillors for the Small Heath Ward said: "Some people came to see Stephen and bought him warm food, while some locals brought him sandwiches".


"He's happy because we referred him to a homeless shelter."


Stephen, a former construction worker, said that he has lost his home four years ago. He lives with his parents in Yardley, east Birmingham, but after they died, he lost his job and the house where he lives. He has a brother and his friends says that he does not want be 'a burden on them'.


He said: "It is a difficult existence to stay in the phone box. It can be very cold at night but the phone box gives me shelter from the wind and rain and I can keep some my goods. Every night I squat in the phone box and curl up to my bed and wait for morning. "


Stephen says that he has gained the kindness of many people that he does not know before by bringing him hot food.


He said: 'I refuse to beg for food, but people are very kind to me. I received food and drink from passers-by and some people brought me warm food. They have shown me kindness. "
